Scalable Enemies
The melee enemies in this 4 day game jam all share the same brains, only differing in appearance, health, and a tactic score variable.
At a score of 0, the enemies attack while the player is in range, in accordance with their cooldowns.
At a score of 1, the enemies have a chance to back off instead of attacking, moving out of your range. This is timed so that once you are in range and begin your own attack, the enemy has already moved away, and as soon as your attack is dodged, it will reevaluate.
For each int above 1, there is a high chance that after moving backwards or after attacking, the enemy will choose between those two simple actions again, chaining these inputs results in combos, evasive maneuvers, and sometimes even both.
This created three tiers of enemies with one brain, and could easily be expanded on if it was a part of a longer game.
